We help organizations, groups, and networks understand the larger systems in which they operate and identify ways to make them more equitable, effective, and impactful.
Development efforts that ignore the importance of trust, reciprocity, coordination, and mutual accountability among people and institutions fail to achieve deep transformational change.
Our work starts with bringing together diverse participants to have informed, honest conversations. We create the space where people feel comfortable to question assumptions about how change happens, how decisions get made and how power dynamics influence outcomes. We support participants to imagine and test new ways of working.

In Malawi we are convening two social labs to address the lack of accountability and citizens' voices in the decisions that affect them most. The labs tap into the resourcefulness of community-based organizations, local non-profit organizations, district government officials, and others living and working in the community. To promote collaboration and iteration, each lab is structured around four phases - outreach, launch, test, and adaptation. The social lab experiments create a space that promotes positive deviance, experimentation, and ongoing learning.
Root Change works with a broad range of locally-led civil society organizations (CSOs), international organizations, donor institutions, academic institutions, foundations, and various networks and alliances supporting CSOs around the world.
